The Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) has appointed Malcolm Harrison as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Harrison is currently CEO at Crown Commercial Service (CCS), the government agency responsible for overseeing and improving government commercial and procurement activity. He became interim head of CCS in March 2016 before taking the role on a permanent basis in September of that year. His new appointment has been announced after the Prime Minister gave him permission to leave his current position.

Harrison began his professional career in 1982 in the sales, operations, procurement and logistics departments at Mars Confectionery where he worked for ten years, including two years leading a cocoa quality improvement program in West Africa. He went on to become Sales Managing Director for Bass Brewery before holding executive roles at InterContinental Hotels, Britvic Soft Drinks and Anheuser-Busch InBev.

Harrison was Global Chief Procurement Officer for Nestle from January 2006 to December 2009 before moving to consumer packaging company Rexam. There he was responsible for global procurement, group IT, health & safety, environment and functional leadership of manufacturing and supply chain across 50 factories worldwide. Harrison worked as a senior commercial advisor for CCS before becoming its CEO.

“Procurement is a profession that I remain very passionate about and to have the opportunity to lead the organisation whose purpose is to build the capabilities of everyone in the profession is a very special role indeed,” website spendmatters.com quoted Harrison as saying. He will begin his appointment at the end of July this year.

CIPS is a global organisation based in the UK working on behalf of the purchasing and supply professions. Its goals are to promote best practice within the industry and to lead excellence in procurement and supply. It has approximately 115,000 members.
