One of the biggest challenges that organisations face today is finding the right procurement talent. This aspect of hiring has gained more importance with Brexit around the corner, and the uncertainty it has caused. With organisations looking to ensure cost savings and unhindered supply chains, the need for the right talent has increased.

What is the right talent in procurement?

CPOs are looking for candidates experienced at working in manufacturing and operational supply chains. This is because such professionals tend to offer greater value to the organisation and understand the cost aspects of procurement.

With the UK set to leave the European Union on 31 October 2019, organisations are eager to hire candidates experienced in independently handling suppliers so that they can ensure delivery of raw materials and goods while keeping costs down. Candidates should ensure sustainable delivery, be comfortable using technology, and be committed to procurement and supply. Hiring managers favour such candidates.

Salary trends for procurement

As the demand for procurement professionals has increased, so has the salary. In June 2019, the average salary for procurement jobs saw an increase of 10%, or £7,940. The average salary procurement professionals can expect is about £57,500, depending on the location and industry.

Contract procurement professionals receive higher salaries compared to permanent procurement professionals. It could be because the former have skills that the organisation is looking for, but for the short-term. The average salary that contract procurement professionals can expect, as of July 2019, is about £96,400, but this figure has reduced by 5% compared to the previous month.

Final words

There is a demand for result-oriented procurement professionals in the UK, but candidates must prove their worth to hiring managers to get attractive salaries.
